Gardai have won a case in the High Court to halt an Oireachtas Sub-Committee Inquiry into the death of John Carthy.

The 36 gardai have won the case on seven counts.

Carthy was shot dead by garda marksmen at Abbeylara in Co Longford over a year ago.

Legal Counsel for the Gardai had said they were not objecting to the Inquiry but more so to the way it was being carried out.

The judgement may have serious repercussions for future Sub-Committee Inquiries.
