High Court decision on Carthy Inquiry expected today

The High Court will give its decision later today on the challenge by 36 gardai to an Oireachtas Sub-Committee Inquiry into the death of John Carthy.

Carthy was shot dead by garda marksmen at Abbeylara in Co Longford over a year ago.

Legal Counsel for the gardai say they are not objecting to the Inquiry but more so to the way it is being carried out.

A judgement is expected around 11am today.

The judgement may have serious repercussions for future Sub-Committee Inquiries.
