Another textile firm has announced plans to lay off workers as the gloomy predictions for the Irish economy continue to materialise.

Another textile firm has announced plans to lay off workers as the gloomy predictions for the Irish economy continue to materialise.

Cork-based firm Youghal carpets is seeking 105 redundancies from a workforce of 260.

This comes after the Sara Lee underwear factory in Killarney, Co Kerry, announced plans to shed 84 of its 278 jobs.

Sara Lee, which opened its Killarney facility last year, blamed a decline in European sales for the cut-backs.
