Opposition parties are demanding that Independent Deputy Thomas Gildea be censured following allegations he made against former Justice Minister Nora Owen.

Opposition parties are demanding that Independent Deputy Thomas Gildea be censured following allegations he made against former Justice Minister Nora Owen.

The Donegal TD was forced to withdraw claims that Mrs Owen received back-handers from Cable TV companies when she was Minister.

Tanaiste Mary Harney has indicated that while the Government regrets the remarks, time will not be available in the Dail for a censure debate.

Fine Gael leader, Michael Noonan, believes his party colleague has been treated very badly.
