Morrison wins damages from Sunday Independent

Singer Van Morrison has won substantial damages from the Sunday Independent after it printed claims that he had an affair with Linda Gail Lewis, the sister of American singer Jerry Lee Lewis.

A lawyer for the newspaper admitted in court today that there was absolutely no truth in the claims.

The allegations emerged during an interview UTV conducted with Ms Lewis.

Mr Morrison has issued libel action against UTV and has threatened to do the same against the Daily Star, the Irish Star, the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Mirror, who all printed the claims.
