The North's police service has confirmed that the loyalist teenager who died in a pipe bomb blast was preparing to use the device when it exploded prematurely.

The 16-year-old, who is being named locally as Glen Sloane, died in hospital after the bomb exploded in his hand.

The incident happened during heavy rioting in the Tiger's Bay area of North Belfast, which erupted when loyalists and nationalists clashed after a Remembrance Day service.
