SDLP to select new deputy leader

The SDLP will select a new leader and deputy leader at its annual conference later today.

Mark Durkan is expected to replace John Hume as party leader.

There could be a tight contest elsewhere however, with five candidates running for Seamus Mallon's former position as deputy leader.

The Northern Secretary John Reid attended the conference yesterday and paid tribute to Mr Hume and Mr Mallon.
