Dissident republicans suspected of smuggled cigs plot

A massive shipment of 20 million contraband cigarettes seized by customs officers may have been part of a dissident Republican fund raising plot, it emerged today.

Revenue Enforcement Division officers boarded the vessel in Dundalk harbour, Co Louth, on Wednesday after a surveillance operation led by the Navy.
