RG Data seeks tighter tobacco controls
RG Data, the body representing Irish retailers, has said the Government must change legislation to prevent young people from buying cigarettes.
RG Data director Ailish Forde said retailers who are caught selling tobacco to minors and young people caught buying cigarettes illegally should all face prosecution.
Her comments come after a survey conducted by the Office of Tobacco Control showed that only 8% of teenagers were asked for age identification when purchasing cigarettes.
