Dublin hospital denies dumping of waste material

The Mater Private Hospital is denying any involvement in the dumping of hazardous material in the Glen of Imaal in Co Wicklow.

In a statement issued by the hospital it says that it has not been invited to attend a meeting with the Wicklow county manager to discuss the matter of illegal dumping.

Meanwhile the Green Party is calling for a full public enquiry into the dumping of hospital waste.

This follows the discovery of 200 tonnes of hazardous hospital waste that was found to be dumped in the Wicklow mountains last week.

Green Party leader, Trevor Sargent says the centralisation of the hospital waste system is the main problem.

He added that at the moment no sterilisation of waste material can happen on site, therefore waste has to be transported around the country in unmarked vehicles.
