IMO seeks short-term measures in health service

The Irish Medical Organisation has said short-term measures as well as a far-sighted strategy are needed to improve Ireland’s health service.

In its submission to the Government’s new health strategy, the IMO said increased waiting lists, manpower shortages, increased workload, low morale and a backlog of "non-implemented" proposals reflect the current state of the health service.

IMO chief executive George McNeice said the new health strategy will be useless unless these immediate difficulties are dealt with.
