Reid unveils plans to boost peace process as IRA disarms

Northern Ireland Secretary John Reid was today poised to announce a series of measures to bolster the peace process after the IRA put its weapons beyond use in a historic move.

After three decades of violence, General John de Chastelain, head of the international disarmament body, confirmed an IRA statement that a plan agreed earlier this year to put weaponry beyond use had started.
