The results of a post mortem examination on a decomposed body found by gardai searching for missing German journalist Betina Poeschel are not expected until tomorrow.

Gardai said tests were carried out overnight by state pathologist Dr John Harbison but that further investigations were needed to establish the time and cause of death.

The discovery of the partially-hidden body was made close to where the 28-year-old Ms Poeschel disappeared while on a sightseeing trip to the Newgrange ancient burial site.

Garda search teams found the body at the entrance to the village of Donore, near Drogheda, Co Meath.

Garda said they were treating the death as suspicious.

The Poeschel family had been due to fly to Dublin today but was expected to arrive in the Irish capital at the weekend.

Family members first flew to the city to launch a media campaign after Ms Poeschel disappeared on September 25.

:: The bodies of a couple who were found dead in a house in Navan, Co Meath, have been taken to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

The couple, in their 50s, were discovered in an upstairs bedroom yesterday by a neighbour who was concerned at the lack of activity at the house, on Boyne Road.

Dr Harbison made a preliminary examination of the bodies at the scene and was due to begin a post mortem examination later today.
