Court ban on Omagh bomb case

Journalists have been banned from reporting certain proceedings in the case of Colm Murphy, the only man to be charged in connection with the Omagh bombing.

Journalists have been banned from reporting certain proceedings in the case of Colm Murphy, the only man to be charged in connection with the Omagh bombing.

Presiding judge Mr Justice Robert Barr ordered that the proceedings of a trial within a trial at Dublin’s Special Criminal Court should not be reported ‘‘in the interests of justice’’.

Micheal O’Higgins, defending, applied for the order while raising legal argument as to the circumstances surrounding the arrest of 49-year-old Murphy, from Dundalk, Co Louth.
