Significant reductions in Aer Lingus air fares came into force yesterday as the national airline struggles to boost demand following the September 11th attacks in the US.

Significant reductions in Aer Lingus air fares came into force yesterday as the national airline struggles to boost demand following the September 11th attacks in the US.

The company has reduced fares by up to 70% on routes from Ireland to Britain, Europe and the USA and plans to lay off up to 2,500 workers in an attempt to remain competitive.

All routes to Britain are just £59, all routes to Europe are £99, while fares to the USA vary from £169 to £249.
