Gardai name Shannon shooting victims

Gardai have named the man and woman shot dead in Shannon last night.

They were Geraldine Kissane, who was single and from Cluain Airne, Shannon, and Mark Simms, originally from Limerick but living in Drumgeely, Shannon.

Detectives have recovered a sawn-off shotgun from the scene.

Local reports suggest the pair had been dating and recently split up but Gardai could not confirm this.

The bodies will be taken to the Mid West Regional Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

Gardai said: "We are not seeking anyone else in relation to the inquiry but we would appeal to any witnesses that we have not already contact. Anyone who may be able to help us in the minutes before the shooting took place, we would like to talk to."
