Irish Government to react on Afghan strikes
The Government here is watching developments as they unfold in Afghanistan.
Ireland is currently holding the presidency of the UN Security Council.
Senior officials at the Department of Foreign Affairs and at Government buildings are back at their desks as the news continues to unfold.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Brian Cowen is being kept fully briefed, he is due to travel to Luxembourg later for a meeting of EU ministers tomorrow.
He is also keeping in close contacts with our diplomats at the United Nations in New York. Official Irish reaction to the news is not expected until later tonight.
