Man wounded in Ulster shooting

A man was taken to hospital in Northern Ireland tonight after being wounded in the latest paramilitary-style shooting.

The victim, aged in his 20s, suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg in the attack which was believed to have happened in Farringdon Court, Ballysillan, in north Belfast, shortly after 9pm according to an RUC spokeswoman.

Earlier three pipe bombs were defused in the north of the city.

The devices were made safe by army bomb disposal experts in the Crumlin Road area, scene of violent loyalist disturbances last week.

Earlier police closed off Crumlin Road between Sylvio Street and Cambrai Street; Hillview Road at Oldpark Road; and the junction of Tennent Street and Danube Street, all in the same area, after suspicious objects were found.
