Nortel to shed 20,000 jobs worldwide

There are fears of more job losses in Ireland's high-tech sector after the telecoms giant Nortel Networks announced it plans to shed 20,000 jobs worldwide.

The company has operations in Dublin, Galway, Shannon and Belfast.

A company spokesman said it was unclear how the cuts will affect its Irish operation.
