The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is defending the Irish Government’s decision to allow the United States air force to use Irish airspace and Shannon airport in any military campaign it intends to launch against Afghanistan.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is defending the Irish Government’s decision to allow the United States air force to use Irish airspace and Shannon airport in any military campaign it intends to launch against Afghanistan.

Mr Ahern said that Ireland had to play its part in the international war on terrorism.
