Massive heroin haul to disrupt supply-gardai
The massive drugs haul seized by gardai earlier today will disrupt supplies in Dublin city for weeks to come, according to gardai.
The 15 kilos of heroin was 90% pure, giving it a potential street value of £15m. It is being hailed as the biggest drugs seizure in the history of the state.
Gardai have put the haul - which also included 100,000 Ecstasy tablets -on display.
A firearm and an imitation gun was also seized in a car that was stopped and searched by drug officers in Lucan, west Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Five people are being detained in custody.
‘It is a very significant seizure, particularly in relation to the heroin’ said Detective Superintendent Noel White of the National Garda Drugs Unit.
‘It is also a severe blow to those responsible for the possession of this drug.’
