A Sinn Fein councillor in west Belfast expressed sympathy for relatives of the two missing boys, saying she hoped ‘‘some sort of closure’’ to the 27-year tragedy could be achieved.

‘‘We must also remember that these searches have had an enormous and traumatic effect on the residents of Rodney Drive - especially the two homes where the digs took place,’’ Lower Falls councillor Marie Cush added.
