The loyalist paramilitary Red Hand Defenders has claimed responsibility for this morning’s blast bomb attack on Catholic schoolchildren making their way to school in a Protestant area of north Belfast.

Four RUC officers were injured when the bomb was thrown as police escorted the children and their parents to the Holy Cross Primary School on the Ardoyne Road.

The Red Hand Defenders is used as a flag of convenience by loyalist paramilitaries who are supposed to be on ceasefire.
