E-coli found in Irish-made cheese

An Irish-made cheese has been withdrawn from the shops after tests on the product showed signs of the e-coli bacteria.

St Tola’s goats’ cheese, which is manufactured in Co Clare, was taken off the shelves at the behest of the Food Safety Authority.

Samples of the cheese were taken earlier this month and the action was taken as soon as the results suggested e-coli contamination.

The FSA has stressed that the withdrawal of the product is purely a precautionary measure.
