Man in court over Limerick drugs seizure
A man has appeared before a special sitting of Limerick District Court charged in connection with a drugs seizure in the city yesterday morning.
40-year-old Christy Keane, with an address at Singland Gardens, Ballysimon, Limerick, is charged under the Drugs Trafficking Act with possession of 20kg of cannabis with intent to supply.
The court heard that the drugs were seized at 10.15am yesterday on wasteland at St Munchin's St in the St Mary's Park area of the city. They are estimated to have a street value of around £200,000.
The defendant's bail application was opposed by Garda Inspector John Scanlon. Judge Liam Malone accepted the case of the gardai and Keane was remanded in custody to appear before the court next Wednesday.
