Bono's father dies of cancer

Bono's father Bob Hewson has died, aged 75.

Mr Hewson had been ill with cancer for several years.

Bono will appear on stage in London tonight despite the death of his father and there are no plans either to reschedule this weekend's concert at Slane..

Bono, real name Paul Hewson, has been flying back to Dublin each night during U2's current Elevation tour to see his father.

He had dedicated songs during the band's live gigs to the man he called "the tough old fella".
