ILDA dismisses Iarnrod Eireann legal threat
The Irish Locomotive Drivers Association has reacted defiantly to Iarnrod Eireann’s threat to sue the union for lost revenue if it goes ahead with plans to mount a fresh series of one-day strikes.
The ILDA, now a branch of the ATGWU, is expected to announce up to 21 days of strike action tomorrow.
Iarnrod Eireann has said it will sue the ATGWU if the strike goes ahead, but ILDA leader Brendan Ogle said the company has no grounds for legal action.
“The reality is that the ATGWU has at all times complied with the Industrial Relations Act in this matter,” he said.
“If Irish Rail want to waste taxpayers’ money going off on a wild-goose chase to the courts, then that’s a matter completely for them.”
