Tourists heading for Spain told to be vigilant

The Department of Foreign Affairs is reminding Irish tourists heading for Spanish holiday resorts to remain vigilant.

The warning comes following a car bomb explosion outside a hotel in Salou, a popular sun resort for Irish holidaymakers.

Spanish police had received telephone warning of the blast and several hundred people were evacuated. There are no reports of any injuries.

The Basque separatist group ETA is thought to be behind the blast.

A spokesperson for Foreign Affairs says it is not thought that any Irish people were staying at the hotel in question.
