Security industry hits out at lack of regulation

The president of the Irish Security Industry Association has criticised the Minister for Justice over his failure to push the Private Security Services Bill through the Oireachtas.

The president of the Irish Security Industry Association has criticised the Minister for Justice over his failure to push the Private Security Services Bill through the Oireachtas.

Dick Mulvaney was speaking at the launch of details for the Security Industry Awards show, which takes place in Clontarf, Co Dublin, next November.

Mr Mulvaney said those within the industry had been working hard for the past 20 years to have it licensed and regulated because of the nature of the service provided.

He said the vast majority of security companies wanted the industry to be controlled by statutes and not by organisations operating in the industry.
