Byrne 'considering' cannabis legalisation

The Garda Commissioner has suggested that there may be some merit in considering the legalisation of cannabis for medical use.

However, Pat Byrne said he would be strongly opposed to the general decriminalisation of the drug.

Speaking at the annual MacGill Summer School in Co Donegal last night, he said that the American experience has shown that simply throwing more Gardai at the problem will not work.
