Busker jailed for three years for stabbing garda
A well-known Dublin busker, who attacked a garda who was responding to a disturbance call at his flat, has been jailed for three years.
43-year-old Andrew Hunt, from Lower Beechwood Avenue, Ranelagh in Dublin has been in the Central Mental Hospital since he was convicted last March.
He was found guilty at the Dublin Criminal Court of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to garda John Dillon on June 17 1999.
Hunt, who was a familiar face on Dublin's busy Grafton Street, attacked garda Dillon with a knife as he and four of his colleagues were responding to a call.
During the attack garda Dillon was stabbed in the hand after he raised his hand over his face to protect himself.
He was also stabbed in the chest with a blow which missed his heart by an inch.
Garda Dillon was out of work for 14 months as a result of his injuries.
