Body discovered in canal in Dublin
Gardai were today attempting to identify the body of a man found in a suitcase floating in Dublin’s Royal Canal.
The case was spotted in the water shortly after 7pm yesterday at Binn's Bridge, near to Croke Park and not far from the city centre.
It was discovered by two passers-by who dragged it out of the water on to the bank.
The body was thought to have been in the water for about three days.
Gardai launched an immediate murder investigation and were checking lists of missing people.
The man, who was fully dressed, was understood to have been in his 30s and well-built. There was not believed to be any sign of mutilation, but the body had been bound with twine.
The scene of the find was sealed off by police overnight and a post mortem examination of the body will be completed by State Pathologist Dr John Harbison today.
