Government rules out Dail recall and disabled referendum

The Government will not be holding a referendum on the rights to education of autistic people regardless of age, according to a Government spokesperson.

Neither will the Taoiseach bow to opposition requests to reconvene the Dail to discuss the Supreme Court judgement in the Sinnott case.

Instead, the spokesman announced after a Cabinet meeting today that the Government will "pursue policy and ensure resources and supports for the disabled are in place".

Meanwhile, the Chief State Solicitor has written to Mrs Sinnott's lawyers to say that the State will cover the cost of her Supreme Court and High Court challenges.
