Man sentenced to two years for PJ Delaney assault
A 23-year-old Co Tipperary man has been sentenced to two years in prison at Nenagh Circuit Court for an assault on former Kilkenny hurler PJ Delaney, which left him in hospital with serious injuries.
Michael McCarthy Jr, with an address at Galboola, Littleton, Co Tipperary, was sentenced to two years for assault causing harm and 18 months for violent disorder to be served concurrently.
The jury, which came to an unanimous verdict, had earlier found McCarthy not guilty of intentionally or recklessly causing harm to the victim.
The incident occurred outside a nightclub in Thurles in September, 1999.
