The mother of the new born baby girl that was found abandoned outside a Gaelic football club has been re-united with her child.

The infant, weighing 6 pounds, was found on Saturday night wrapped in a white blanket and towel at the gates of the club house on the Woodside Road in Ballymena, Co Antrim.

The discovery was made by the RUC after a woman in a state of distress phoned a local taxi firm to report that baby had been abandoned.

The mother came forward to claim responsibility after the RUC made a public appeal.
