British bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a blast bomb found this morning close to Drumcree Bridge in Portadown.

The bomb was discovered by soldiers who were working to remove razor wire from an area surrounding Drumcree Church.

A number of other items that were also found at the scene have been removed for technical examination.

A senior RUC officer in the area said those who planted the blast bomb are guilty of attempted murder.

He said its discovery shows that the massive police and army plan put into operation for the Drumcree Orange Order march was necessary.
