The DART service to north Co Dublin has been cancelled for today after a fire at the Fairview depot last night.

The blaze was noticed by gardai at around 3.20am.

Ten units of Dublin Fire Brigade were called to deal with the fire, which destroyed four carriages and seriously damaged another two.

Many others were also damaged by smoke.

A spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann said all services to the northside are cancelled for today and possibly for tomorrow also.

Services on the southside will be disrupted because of the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and the Fairview station has been sealed off pending technical examination.
