Irish people, who died in past wars and during service with the United Nations

have been remembered at a ceremony in Dublin this afternoon.

The National Day of Commemoration ceremony took place at the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham.

President Mary McAleese and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern were among those in attendance.

The President laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Ireland following a special prayer service.
