Justice Minister under pressure after Arms Trial report
The Minister for Justice, John O’Donoghue is coming under fire following the publication of a report into an allegation of tampering with evidence in the 1970 Arms Trial.
Mr O’Donoghue has been placed under pressure in the Dail after the failure of the report to fully answer the questions it had been created to deal with.
The inquiry had established that it was highly unlikely that any evidence had been tampered with but, because of the death of key witnesses and the loss of vital documents, the inquiry could not be fully sure.
The former leader of the Progressive Democrats, Des O’Malley, who was Minister for Justice at the time of the Trial, says that the report has vindicated him.
However, members of the opposition say that the report raises more questions then it resolves.
