Further inquiry calls likely over Arms Trial report
The Minister for Justice is likely to face calls for a further inquiry into the 1970 Arms Trial when he makes a statement to the Dail later today.
John O'Donoghue will give the Oireachtas details of investigations into allegations that evidence in the controversial trial was changed.
The report into alterations allegedly made to the late Col Michael Hefferon's statement to the trial is inconclusive, largely because of the time lapse and the lack of documentation available.
It admits that there is a possibility that allegations of evidence tampering are true, but emphasises that it is remote.
However, the opposition is expected to call for further inquiries into the 30-year-old affair.
