An asylum seeker has been arrested in Cork after threatening to commit suicide when gardai arrived to serve a deportation order on him.

The Nigerian man's application had been turned down and when local gardai arrived to arrest him at his residence in Glanthaune, he ran onto the muddy bed of the River Lee near the village's railway station.
