Ahern and Blair may visit the North

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern and the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair are expected to decide later today whether or not they should travel to Northern Ireland tomorrow in a last ditch effort to save the peace process.

The two leaders are faced with the prospect of having to continue the process after David Trimble’s impending resignation next Sunday.

The Ulster Unionist’s resignation as First Minister of the Northern Assembly could have disastrous effects on the peace process.
