Trimble resignation will help process

The leader of the Ulster Unionists, David Trimble has told a meeting of the party’s ruling council that his impending resignation as First Minister of the Northern Assembly would force the hand of the IRA on the decommissioning issue.

The leader of the Ulster Unionists, David Trimble has told a meeting of the party’s ruling council that his impending resignation as First Minister of the Northern Assembly would force the hand of the IRA on the decommissioning issue.

Mr Trimble said that his resignation would not collapse the assembly but it would provide time for all the political parties and both Governments time to save the agreement.
