ISPAT 'to reject' the rescue package

The parent company of the Irish ISPAT plant in Co Cork has told trade union officials that they have rejected the proposed rescue package for the steel works.

The parent company of the Irish ISPAT plant in Co Cork has told trade union officials that they have rejected the proposed rescue package for the steel works.

Tanaiste, Mary Harney has been meeting with the owners of the Irish ISPAT plant in an effort to save the jobs of the 400 workers who were formerly employed by Irish Steel.

However, the chief negotiator for one of the trade unions representing the workers, SIPTU, says that they have been treated disgracefully by the company in the negotiations.
