RUC blames loyalists for continuing Belfast violence

A senior RUC officer has said that loyalist paramilitaries are actively engaged in ensuring the violence in north Belfast continues.

A senior RUC officer has said that loyalist paramilitaries are actively engaged in ensuring the violence in north Belfast continues.

Chief Superintendent Roger Maxwell said the bulk of the attacks are coming from within Protestant areas.

He said that there is no doubt about the involvement of loyalist paramilitaries, but that he did not want to "point the finger" at specific groups.
