Taxi unions dismiss service improvements

The National Taxi Drivers Union has claimed that de-regulation has not brought any significant improvement to the taxi service.

A survey carried out by Trinity College shows that the service in Dublin is uneven, with waiting periods at peak times of over 90 minutes.

It also shows difficulties in booking taxis by phone and a low proportion of wheelchair-accessible cabs.

Vincent Kearns of the NTDU said the establishment of a taxi board is needed to oversee the expanding service.
