Protests over use of flouride in water
A group of people who are concerned with the reportedly damaging effects of fluoride, which is added to water in Ireland, has demanded the Government stop the process known as fluoridation.
The Fluoride Free Water group marched on the Department of Health this today to call on Minister Martin, to carry out studies into the effects of fluoride in water.
They also want the Minister to launch an independent inquiry into what they call the mass medication of Irish people, calling it a breach of human rights.
The group, which is headed by a dentist, Dr Pat Mac Auley, also delivered a protest letter which was addressed to the Minister. Scientific studies have constantly linked fluoride in water to hip fractures, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, thyroid disorders and neurological damage.
Dr Mac Auley says that the agent being used to fluoridate Irish water is
a highly corrosive acid and a waste product of the fertiliser industry,
that contains lead, chromium and arsenic.
