Barring order 'upset' Garda murder accused

The Central Criminal Court has been told that a Dublin man accused of murdering a Garda at Tallaght two years ago, fell behind in his work when he was denied access to his children.

Daniel O'Toole of Cashel Avenue, Crumlin, is facing three charges of capital murder, murder and arson relating to the death of Sergeant Andrew Callanan at Tallaght Garda Station in July 1999.

Giving evidence, Mr Tibo Baia told the court that he employed Mr O'Toole as a security man on a film and TV location around the time of the alleged offences.

He said that following a domestic dispute, Mr O'Toole was served with a barring order.

He added that this affected the defendant and upset him greatly, resulting in a deterioration of his work, with him occasionally turning up late.
