Tallaght fire attacker claims murder wasn't intention
The trial of a Dublin man charged with the murder of a Garda in
Tallaght two years ago has been told that the accused wanted to attack the system.
38-year-old Daniel O'Toole, of Cashel Avenue, Crumlin, is facing three charges relating to the death of Sergeant Andrew Callanan on July 21st 1999.
Mr O' Toole has offered a guilty plea to manslaughter, but says he is not guilty on the charges of murder and capital murder.
The court heard that O' Toole was angry and suicidal at not being allowed access to his children after a domestic dispute in 1988.
He approached Tallaght Garda Station with two containers of petrol and two flares, and after a confrontation with the Sergeant, a flare fell, causing an explosion which was eventually to kill Sergeant Callanan.
