Government protests to US over McVeigh

The United States Federal Government will go ahead with the execution of Timothy McVeigh despite protests from the Irish Government and other EU member states.

The EU has expressed its concern over the increasing use of the death penalty in the US and particularly the resumption of Federal executions, which have not been carried out since 1969.
